The Maria Golia Prize
The Maria Golia Prize is part of the Settimo International Piano Competition, and is dedicated to the former pianist and teacher Maria Golia.
The first edition of the Settimo International Piano Competition took place from 15 to 17 May 2009, and there were 20 pianists from all around the world competing for the Maria Golia Prize.
Who was Maria Golia?
Former pianist Maria Golia was born in Napoly (Italy) on the 23th of August 1916 and was a pupil of Luigi Finizio. She has been one of the most important pianists from the period after the second world war. She has dedicated a great part of her life to teaching piano and has been Honorary President of the European Piano Teachers Association.
È stata una delle più importanti pianiste del secondo dopoguerra. Docente per oltre 30 anni al Conservatorio “Verdi” di Torino è stata anche Presidente Onoraria dell´Epta (European Piano Teachers Association).
She was a strong and charismatic personality who has formed several Italian pianists that are pursuing an active carreer nowadays. Marina Scalafiotti, who’s the initiater and artistic director of the Settimo International Piano Competition was one of her pupils.
