Maria Golia Prize 2009

The Maria Golia Prize 2009 has been an important part of the first edition of the Settimo International Piano Competition 2009.

In 2009, the commission of 5 judges and twenty pianists from around the world have created together what was the first edition of the Maria Golia Prize.

Without age limit, the competition was set up in two sessions:

1. Elimination Session - 25 minutes

  1. A prelude and fugue from the “Well Tempered Klavier” books of J.S.Bach;
  2. The first movement of a Sonata of W.A. Mozart, F.J. Haydn or M. Clementi;
  3. One Etude of F. Chopin;
  4. One Etude of F. Liszt, A. Skrjabin, V. Liapunov, S. Rachmaninov, C. Debussy, Ligeti, or O’Hana.
  5. One composition chosen by the candidate.

2. The Final Session - 30 minutes, chosen from:

  1. One important Sonata from L.v. Beethoven;
  2. One important composition by F. Schubert, F. Mendelssohn, F. Chopin, R. Schumann, J. Brahms, C. Franck, F. Liszt, or M. Mussorgskij;
  3. One important composition by a composer born from 1861 (from C. Debussy) until the present time.

No piece of the Elimination session could be presented in the Final session.

The admission to the Final Session depended on judgement of suitability by the majority of the Jury.
